quote of the week
(from last week because I forgot to blog it)
from an earnest boy...
"You're the best teacher in the whole damn world!"
New goal: best teacher in the whole damn galaxy.
P.S. Star Wars Crayons were carved by Steve Thompson.

Last Sunday I met Elsie Larson!
I'm a big fan of Elsie Larson's scrapbook pages and artwork, so I knew Corey and I had to go see her husband's band, Sucré, last Sunday at the Hard Rock Cafe.
The opening band was o.k. but we were happy to sip our drinks and relax with each other on our date.
Here is the lead singer of Sucré. I couldn't get a good picture but mostly I just wanted to sit and enjoy her beautiful voice and her band's music. Jeremy Larson rocked on his keyboard and guitar. We wished we could hear him play all the other instruments he knows how to play.
Elsie was there of course...I talked with her while buying their c.d. but was too shy to ask her to autograph my Instax camera (which I was inspired to buy after seeing it on her blog) or take a picture with me. Silly!
So instead I took a photo from afar. Hi Elsie!!!!
I love Sucré. Check them out.

Project Life: Week 14
This week documents going to Caribbean Spice to discuss Little Bee with my book club, 2 pack walks, a Mad Men marathon (Corey & I are finally catching up with the times), writing a bunch of cards, and a class party.
My friend took a picture with her cell phone of the food I ate at Caribbean Spice which I combined with their green menu in the back and their trimmed business card. The pack walk days were cut from a magazine advertisement for a line of patterned paper (I have some). I busted out my Majestic scissors to fancy up the journaling strip on the first one. I got the Mad Men photo off the internet and added journaling on patterned paper.
This day is one of my favorites visually. It's a Target ad that came in the mail, just in time for a party in my class and Tito's birthday. I haven't been noting people's birthdays but this one worked out.
I really like how this week turned out. I think it is a good graphic representation of the year.

shower gift
One of the teachers I work with is getting married so I made this for her as a bridal shower gift. First I got their engagement photos off of Facebook, pirate style. I used an old heart stencil on the picture of them with their doggy Diego. I'm so glad I saved all of my old stencils because they still come in handy every now and then.
The top half of the frame is matted with their wedding invitation. On the bottom half I used parts of her bridal shower invitation and a Jolee's sticker as embellishments. Since she's a teacher and they chalked their wedding date in the top photo I thought doodling on the bottom with a white marker would tie it all together nicely.

Project Life: Week 13
This week documents a day we got sad news on the phone, a day we got happy news on the phone, running into a really old friend at PetSmart, a hair cut, scrapping at Angi's, and a pack walk.
Putting this week together was a scavenger hunt. 3 of the photos were gathered from across the internet, while my Kindergarten class photo was scanned and reprinted at home. 2 of the days include magazine clippings, and 1 includes a newspaper advertisement insert. There's also 3 Smash Stickies and a business card for good measure.
The good news is my niece got engaged! Her proposal photo is vertically composed so I decided to arrange all the photos on the right the same way.
On Pack Walk day I stamped with some paint I've never used before: Manganese Blue. I think it's my new favorite.

opening day
Opening Day is here at last and the Diamondbacks won against the Giants! Gerardo Parra got a Gold Glove and Ryan Roberts hit an inspiring double. Nice way to start the season.
It made me get out my scrapbook and look at the pages I made of a game we went to last year when we sat in the front row behind Parra. Here's one of my favorites. I took the roster from the program and personalized it to our game with brads complete with key:
Go Dbacks!

Project Life: Week 12
This week documents our visit from my fabulous sister-in-law, parent-teacher conferences, viewing the Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit with Alana, doing our taxes (numbers covered - top secret pirate stuff), and a day of scrapbooking.
Frank Lloyd Wright day is from a brochure I picked up at the museum. It has a Smash Stickie with a pencil, since I'll always remember from our tour of Taliesin West that apprentices only use pocket knives to sharpen their pencils. I bought those Stickies after my friend Angi showed me hers.
Scrapbooking day has a little post card project made in Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. Now I have a place to put all those little paper things I once stopped myself from hoarding.
Here is Nerd Nest's Week 12.
